Anyway, I’m starting a new kind of post, a monthly round-up. As you can tell by the pictures above, this isn’t about one particular area, but a multitude. From TV and film to beauty and fashion I will be talking about my favourites, loves and new discoveries.
WARNING: Serious geekiness is about to ensue…
OH EM GEE it’s back!! I know we had the traditional Christmas episode, but I’ve been SO looking forward to this! I love Matt Smith more than is probably considered decent and to top that off the new companion, Oswin, is a character I’ve already grown to adore too. I wasn’t a fan of Amy Pond (I’m aware I may have lost some of you already, but bear with me), but this assistant is sassy, intelligent, brave and a challenge for our beloved Time Lord. The chemistry between them is already electric and based on the very clever first episode, the whole series promises to be really exciting and nail-biting! Can I also mention that this year is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, which means there is going to be a special episode in November as well as a 3 day event with some of the original Time Lords?! I’ve already signed up to find out when the tickets come out! I plan on dressing up as my favourite, Jon Pertwee. Don’t act like you’re not impressed.
I have waited only about 4 years for this. FOUR YEARS. Was it worth it? Oh God, yes. I am in the middle of writing a review for the game, but I’m playing it through again at the moment as clearly twice wasn’t quite enough. The Tomb Raider franchise was brought by Square Enix who took the concept and made it their own. For someone who has played all the games from a young age, I was a bit sceptical of how the final product would turn out. But they pulled it out of the bag, without a doubt. We follow a young, inexperienced Lara who is on an archaeological expedition when her team’s boat crashes on an island that is inhabited by creatures far more sinister than you’re average wildlife. I won’t give much away now, but as the game develops you see this courageous young woman learn to fight, both mentally and physically, growing in strength and self belief to become the Lara we all know and love. The graphics are stunning, the combat fantastic and the ending was SUBLIME. I’ll post a link here when I’ve finished my review, but if you haven’t bought it yet, do it. Now.
Oh March has been a phenomenal month for gaming. This is another game both my brother and I have waited years for. I’m still in complete AWE at the beauty of it. The floating city, Columbia, is damn well near the most sensational piece of art I’ve ever seen. The storyline is exquisite but extremely complex and I will be playing it again just to make sure I understand fully all the connections made. It’s just so CLEVER, especially how it links back to the previous games. I wont give much away on this either as I will be doing a full review, but as a taster… You start at a Windmill in the middle of an ocean and as you reach the top you enter a pod that propels you into the sky. You land in what looks like a large chapel, with ankle deep water and candles and petals floating around your feet. In the background a beautiful hymn that guides you in your approach to the city. Just try to not let your jaw drop when you see the city. I dare you.
I’m genuinely not surprised this has won over 85 awards already. Words cannot express how much I love this game! The fighting style is similar to that of it’s predecessors, but the approach is updated and the fighting styles are more detailed and fun. I particularly love the sky hook! If you’re an avid gamer like myself and haven’t already invested in this, PLEASE do. It’s a masterpiece.
This album came out last year, which was when I discovered ‘Anything Can Happen’ and listened to it about 10 times a day. After recognising her distinctive voice over some TV adverts I knew I had to listen to the rest of album. I bought it earlier in March and I haven’t been disappointed. The lyrics of each song are filled with meaning and emotion, something I find distinctly lacking in most chart music today, and her voice is so dazzling, I adore it. My favourites are ‘My Blood’ and ‘Figure 8’. Check her out on YouTube!
Have you ever seen a film that before watching, you’ve thought, “This isn’t my type of thing” or “I won’t like this”, but then you’ve been proved horrendously wrong?! This was that film for me. I saw it for the first time years ago and LOVED it. I saw it on BBC iPlayer last week and jumped at the chance to watch it again. It’s subtitled, but that has never bothered me. Some of the best TV series’ and films are – just take The Killing, for example. The story is wonderful. It’s about a young man named Jaguar Paw who, after being taken hostage by the Mayans – a kingdom that believes the key to prosperity is human sacrifices – has to fight for his freedom and return to his village to save his pregnant wife and son. It’s a story about passion, love and fighting for what you believe in. It’s a brilliant film and I’ve already ordered it to add to my collection. It’s easily in my top 15 films.
Ahhhh the new season of Fiorelli. Always a wonderful time! March was my last month to order my free accessory as part of the competition I won last year. I’m gutted I wont be getting any more of their products for free, but that won’t stop me investing! The new collections are gorgeous! From floral prints and navy colourings on a variety of styled handbags, you’re spoilt for choice. It took me a good week to decide which to choose! There’s intricate detailing as well as extravagant colouring, which means there are styles and designs to suit all tastes and purposes! But from me it’s a HUGE thumbs up (again).
I discovered Empire Magazine back in March when my dream man appeared on the front cover. Yes, that’s right, Henry Cavill as Superman. *fangirl scream* Need I say more? I MISSED the February issue with my other favourite Benedict Cumberbatch, but I got the May version already with a special cover of the whole Star Trek cast! As incredible as the front covers are, I do actually READ them as well. The magazines features amazing imagery and articles on upcoming films as well as games. & I think we’ve more than worked out they’re firmly in my list of interests…! If you love film as much as I do, grab yourself a copy and lose yourself for a few hours.
Decleor & Jurlique
My skincare has firmly landed on Decleor and during March I was trialling quite a few products. I was trying the Aroma Purete Shine Control Oxygenating Fluid, which is amazing for oily skin types. The wonder product for me though, was easily the Aromessence Neroli oil. It leaves skin soft, plump and radiant. I plan on investing in more products in the next few days. They might be expensive but you get what you pay for without a doubt! The Jurlique Rosewater Mist is a beautiful toner that balances and hydrates the skin. I love it; it smells divine and gives me a little wake-up mid-afternoon (when I most need it). I’ll continue to experiment with different brands, but these are definitely products that have wormed their way into my ‘essential’ list.
And last, but not least, I am sharing with you one of my favourite sites. I discovered MochiThings in early March when I was looking for a planner. They sell everything from diaries and notebooks to wallets, photo albums, stickers and phone cases. I actually adore everything on the site and plan on spending a faaaair bit of money in the next week or so! They describe their products as ‘cute and functional’ and that’s exactly what they are. The photography of each product is beautifully shot – it makes me want to buy EVERYTHING. Take a look HERE and enjoy!
That’s it for this month! I hope you liked. What were your highlights for March? x
