My Spring to Summer Favourites

I LOVE Spring fashions; from floral prints to pastel colours the styling is right up my street. Whenever I get a spare moment I can often be found perusing the latest trends online and below are 4 looks I’ve created comprised of some of my favourite pieces out at the moment. This is a new kind of post for me, but in keeping with my 30 day challenge of doing something new ever day, I thought I’d give this a try. Look 1 Warehouse Denim Joggers £46 // Warehouse Scuba Floral Print Top £30 // Clarks Romantic Moon Sandals £49.99 // Warehouse Silk Cord Power Statement Necklace £20 // Zara Perforated Shopper £29.99 This look for me is perfect for a casual day out with friends or family. The Denim Joggers from Warehouse are GORGEOUS and are firmly at the top of my Birthday wishlist. They can be worn in a variety of outfits for both day or night; I’d wear them with heels, a cami and a blazer for an evening out. Here I’ve …

Day 2, 3 and 4 of my 30 Day challenge!

Typical; I start a 30 day project and on the second day my internet goes down! But I’m back now and ready to update you on the past 5 days. It’s been a busy and a hectic week but I’ve really enjoyed broadening my knowledge and trying new things! On Tuesday and Wednesday, day 2 and 3, I spent the majority of the morning and afternoons in London having an interviews at Reuters, a global multimedia company and Ocean Media, a publishing and events company. Both were in the same area and it was the first time I’ve ever been to Canary Wharf. I took this as an amazing opportunity to tick off a number of things off my list! I wore a skirt/dress AND heels to both my interviews and afterwards I explored the area whilst I was there. When I wasn’t gallivanting around London I was at home using a new app I had downloaded to help improve and teach myself new languages. (See, I told you I’ve been busy.) Wearing a skirt, …

My 30 day challenge!

I’ve been wanting to start a personal project now for some time and after a weeks worth of planning, I’ve decided to finally get underway! As of today, I have officially started my near-4 week challenge in which I will push and question myself. Over the next 30 days I am going to try and learn something new and/or do something new and out of my comfort zone every single day. I’ve got quite a few ideas, some of which I’ve included below. My hope is that by the end of this I will not only feel more confident, but enlivened and more knowledgeable. I’ll write a post every single day describing what I’ve done out of the ordinary and I hope you’ll follow me on my journey. Here’s a selection of ideas you can expect to see over the coming weeks: 1. Start writing a book – I know everyone says they want to do this at some point, but I have genuinely always wanted to write my own erotic-style thriller. Think Basic Instinct! …

My Most Inspirational Films

It’s never easy when you lose your motivation. Being completely uninspired can leave you feeling helpless and unsure of yourself, not to mention isolated. Most of us have been there. I experienced it for the first time about 2 weeks ago when I was unwell and unfortunately in a fair bit of pain. As someone who is normally a very happy, positive person with a ‘don’t let the bastards bring you down’ attitude (thank you Brian Blessed), I made a few changes to help me feel healthier and get back my normal, determined attitude! Firstly, I made sure I got out of the house. It’s amazing what a bit of fresh air can do! I spoke to my family and friends, went back to the gym and I watched a few films that really helped me feel revitalised and inspired once again. 1. Dead Poet’s Society I watched this for the first time a few weeks back and it’s already become one of my favourites. I adore Robin Williams; he’s just spectacular as the teacher …

Manning Gottlieb Interview

Two weeks ago I had an interview for the positions of Social Media Designer at Manning Gottlieb, a multi-award winning design agency based in London. I didn’t get the position (the company didn’t hire anyone in the end), but I was told that I was the strongest candidate with ‘amazing design talent’ and ‘really great ideas’. Of course I was sad not to get the role, but I firmly believe everything happens for a reason and that something even better will come along. Always stay positive! After I passed the phone interview, I had to prepare a brief of work for the final stage. Unfortunately I didn’t get the brief until much later than planned due to an administration error and I had to make do with the time I had. I worked continuously for 2 days straight and got the first two of the four parts done in great detail. I managed to thoroughly research the other two and come up with a variety of ideas ready to present for my interview. The interview …

Sing Out Loud

During the Summer of last year I took on a side project of blogging for my local singing group, Sing Out Loud. I really do love writing and given any opportunity to express myself creatively, I’ll take it. The group meets in Chelmsford, every Thursday night and is genuinely one of the highlights of my week. It’s a wonderful way to relieve stress, escape from the real world for a bit and improve your skill as a singer. At 24, I’m by far the youngest person who attends but that in no way changes the dynamic of the group; I’ve always gotten on well with people who are much older than I am and the people I’ve met are all so unique it’s impossible not to fall in love with them all. The evenings are filled with laughter, tea, chatter and yes, there’s even singing at some point. I have made some life-long friendships with some of the Sing Out Loud members, one in particular being Chrissie, a wonderfully funny and caring lady who has …

Happy New Year!

Well, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? I haven’t actually posted since June last year… that’s 7 months ago! There are a few reasons why I took a break from blogging; all of which I will go into as I restart my writing seriously. It’s a new year and the perfect time to start as I mean to go on. A lot happened in the second half of 2013; the majority of it good. Very good! The majority of my time from May to November was taken up by my then-new job at Lipsy in Central London. I absolutely loved the job – the location, the people and the variety of design work I did. But I paid a great price for this role; I had to be up extremely early every morning and I often got home very late. I didn’t see my friends for over 4 months straight and I got very little family time. The travel also contributed to the chronic pain I suffer due to my brain and spinal condition. …

Rock The Backpack

When I started working in London, I found out very quickly that a one-shoulder handbag just won’t cut it. & I love handbags. I own so many of them I literally don’t have anywhere to put them. Because of my neck and shoulder condition, I really can’t get through the day without my back feeling fully supported and the weight taken off of my left side. As a result, I brought a backpack knowing it would help me carry my often heavy load! On my birthday I treated myself to a beautiful leather Topshop backpack, which can be found here. It holds all my essentials, you know; whatever book I’m currently reading, my makeup/hairbands/handcream, my purse etc. Backpacks are definitely making a come-back into the fashion world and as a result I’ve compiled a list of my 5 favourites. If, like me, you enjoy some two-strap action (that doesn’t sound dirty, does it?!), then I hope you like my choices! 1. Etsy 13″ 3-In-1 Hobo Pack – Individually Made – Prices Vary I ADORE this …

Life At Lipsy

Wow, has it really been over two weeks?? Where has the time gone! I’ve technically only worked at Lipsy now for 9 days, but the amount I’ve already learnt is huge. I still feel ‘new’; it always takes me a little while to settle in to a job. Being an introvert, I need a good month to feel comfortable enough to openly be myself. That being said, I feel really at ease and happy around the E-commerce team and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them better. As for the job… I absolutely LOVE it. As a Junior Digital Designer, I don’t have the same experience and skills as my two colleagues – but the brilliance of this position is that I’m being TAUGHT. It’s a bit hectic in the office at the moment due to the upcoming Lipsy VIP Awards, but when things settle down I will have more of an opportunity to talk through what I want to learn and what areas I want more experience in. The Digital team built, …

Anything Can Happen

So, I have a little announcement to make… If the above picture doesn’t give it away somewhat, then let me just say I’m a super-duper ball of excitement at the moment!! Next Tuesday I will be starting my NEW job as Junior Digital Designer at Lipsy!! It’s still sinking in that I got the position and that I will be working for a brand I love! I’m of course, nervous, but my enthusiasm and determination far exceed the butterflies. The Head Office is in London at Oxford Circus – one of my favourite areas! It’s a job that will help train and develop my skills so that, hopefully, in a few years, I can become a Senior Digital Designer! I literally can’t wait to get started! I consider myself to be very lucky – getting a job in the fashion industry with a brand that I greatly respect and who will help me grow and build my career is a dream come true for me, especially considering the economic climate and lack of jobs available. …

Margaret-Thatcher-Goodbye

Goodbye, Maggie

“If you lead a country like Britain, a strong country, a country which has taken a lead in world affairs in good times and in bad, a country that is always reliable, then you have to have a touch of iron about you.” Ask me, “Are you proud to be British?”, and 9 times out of ten, my answer will be yes. Very rarely am I made to feel disgusted or upset at my country, especially when I am not a very political person. At almost 24, I am far too young to have known or lived under the rule of Margaret Thatcher. I was, however, brought up to respect not only my elders, but those who have influenced, inspired and left their mark, for the better, on our country. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course. I couldn’t possibly understand how those who lived under her time in Office felt. But neither could I EVER celebrate and have a party over the death of someone who played such a monumental role in British …

Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner, This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle, Soap & Glory Glow Getter

Be Gone, Winter!

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not a ‘lady who tans’. I know what you’re thinking! Shocking news, right? When I am out in the hot sun I tend to burn the majority of the time, regardless of my factor 50+ sun cream. That said, I’m not one to actively try and tan, either. I wear moisturisers and products with SPF every day, even in winter, because my skins well-being is very important to me. Most people I meet, men and women alike, spend a lot of time on building their tans and think being pale is awful. That’s okay, we’re all entitled to our opinions – but to me, my health far exceeds the need for ‘a tan’. My strict routine must be working somewhat, I’m frequently mistaken for looking 14! Ha! I did try a fake tan once, last July. The whole process went okay, but after the colour set in, I looked ridiculous. Seriously! It was the lightest shade (is that the term?!), but I looked like I had rolled …

March Roundup

My God, is it April already?? Where has the time gone! Spring hasn’t even properly sprung and yet we’re coming to the end of the first quarter of the year! Cripes. Anyway, I’m starting a new kind of post, a monthly round-up. As you can tell by the pictures above, this isn’t about one particular area, but a multitude. From TV and film to beauty and fashion I will be talking about my favourites, loves and new discoveries. WARNING: Serious geekiness is about to ensue… Doctor Who OH EM GEE it’s back!! I know we had the traditional Christmas episode, but I’ve been SO looking forward to this! I love Matt Smith more than is probably considered decent and to top that off the new companion, Oswin, is a character I’ve already grown to adore too. I wasn’t a fan of Amy Pond (I’m aware I may have lost some of you already, but bear with me), but this assistant is sassy, intelligent, brave and a challenge for our beloved Time Lord. The chemistry between …

Decleor Aroma Purete Imperfections Roll’On

I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those people who’s tried pretty much every spot treatment available in the agonising hope that the next new purchase will be the ‘miracle’ product that actually helps reduce my redness and spot size/development when I need it. Creams, gels, sprays – you name it, I’ve tried it. I’ve naturally got oily/combination skin, but it seems prone to drying too. Even natural tea-tree oil causes my skin to peel, which we all know is NOT a good look, especially when you need to conceal for work or a night out. So it was on a complete whim that I brought the Decleor Aroma Purete Imperfections Roll’On from Feel Unique. I was repurchasing my regular skincare and actually needed to buy one more Decleor product to get a free gift set worth £60. I thought I’d give the spot treatment a go and I’m so glad I did! The treatment has a blend of 5 specially selected Essential Oils effective especially on combination to oily skins. Many people …

CV Update

I’ve recently updated my CV again, seeing as I finished my last job experience on the 7th of February. I decided to keep this one much simpler and tad more professional. I still love my previous version, but I wanted a design that I felt was appropriate for all applications! I’ve used my favourite, spring-time colour of light blue, which psychologically it is seen as ‘trustworthy, dependable and committed’. It’s the least gender specific colour so it will appeal to both men and women too! It also aids intuition and impulse, so hopefully it will inspire recruiters to take a chance on me! Let me know what you think!
