2013 In Film: My Most Anticipated Movies Part 1

Okay, so there are some seriously good films coming out this year. I’ve been reading far too many updates and watched more trailers than is probably considered healthy. I’ve *somehow* whittled it down to my top 5, and the next best 10. But fear not… I’ve broken this post down into 2 different parts, so as to hopefully keep you lot from getting bored! Today we’ll look at my 5 favourites. A couple of these were easy for me, for the others I had to really try and be picky… You’re lucky really, this post almost contained about 30 films. Right, lets start… 1. Man Of Steel – 14th June 2013 All right, who’s surprised this ones here? No one? I thought so. Not only does this film feature my future husband as the hero himself (shut up), but it also has my favourite composer Hans Zimmer behind the musical wheel. Already this film can do no wrong! The trailer had me hooked in seconds. Giving the audience a glimpse of the action; what looks …

Elementary Review

Elementary… First Thoughts

It’s probably unjust of me to do a review of ‘Elementary’ when there’s only been the pilot episode. It’s probably even more unjust of me to compare it to ‘Sherlock’, and more specifically, Benedict Cumberbatch’s brilliant portrayal of Holmes. The two, despite featuring the same protagonists, are meant to be different. One is the US’s interpretation of Doyle’s character, the other, obviously, is the British. It’s this fact that I’m trying to hold onto. I am a tad bias – ‘Sherlock’ is one of my all-time favourite shows, and both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are 2 of my most-loved actors. I *did* try to put this aside when watching ‘Elementary’. & in doing so, you know what? It was actually good. BUT. Yes, there’s a big but. He’s not Sherlock. Johnny Lee Miller acted very well. He was erratic, intelligent and obscure. That is, however where the similarities with Sherlock end. The thing that stood out most to me was that you could change the names of ‘Holmes’ and ‘Watson’ to ‘Smith’ and ‘Jones’ …

Taken 2 Movie Review

Taken 2 Review

“What are you going to do?” “…What I do best.” WARNING: Possible Spoilers! I was very apprehensive about seeing this film. I’d been waiting a little obsessively since the first one and so to hear somewhat negative feedback from other reviews and friends was pretty disheartening. I’ve never been one to pay much attention to other peoples thoughts on a film (or book) as I definitely like to make up my own mind, but as this film was a must-see for me I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my expectations… Oh, but it did. I thought the film was simply AMAZING. Like most sequels I definitely didn’t expect it to compare to the first, but you know what? To me, it did. You start at what I presume is a few months after the first film. The Albanian men who died at the unbeatable hands of Brian Mills are being buried and you see the remaining family plotting their revenge. Joining Neeson’s character back in LA, we see that Lenore’s separated from her …
